Derrick Rose Has Fans Jumping for Free Shoes at London Pop-Up Store

Adidas London - Jump Store

Earlier this month Chicago Bulls’ superstar Derrick Rose was travelling around Europe as part of Adidas’ “D-Rose Tour”. When the tour reached the UK, agency TBWA constructed a pop-up store in the London borough of Hackney stocked with hundreds of pairs of D Rose 3.5 shoes. (remember when we simply called these sneakers?)

To bring home a pair of shoes, the aspiring basketball players simply had to grab them off the shelf. However, the shelf was located high above the floor at the height of a basketball net.

lululemon Post Tongue-in-Cheek CEO Wanted Ad on Home Page

lululemon CEO Wanted

It hasn’t been a great week for Canadian lifestyle retailer lulemeon. On Monday, CEO Christine Day announced she was stepping down after five years in the job.

Despite the company’s stock price has taking a hit after the announcement, Friday morning the company posted a tongue-in-cheek help wanted ad for a new CEO on their website’s home page.

According to the job listing the prospective candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • You communicate powerfully, often through Sanskrit
  • You are disciplined, focused and can hold headstand for at least 10 minutes
  • You’re a long-term thinker. You already have a plan to bring yoga and luon to Mars by 2018
  • You break all the rules like getting your OM-on (loudly) whenever the urge arises
  • You elevate and cultivate the level of talent within the senior leadership team by holding The Bachelor lululemon. Only one successful SVP will get the final rose
  • Not only do you lead the organization to create components for people to live long, healthy and fun lives, you know the secret to how they got the caramel in the Caramilk bar
  • You wear The Mansy to lead our company-wide morning chant and kombucha ritual

In addition the finer print states; Your go-to party trick is your dead-on impression of the yogi in “Sh*T Yogis Say”, in reference to a widely-viewed video the company posted in December 2011.

Designer Pays Tribute to New Bailey’s Bottle with Dress Made from Broken Glass

Bailey's Lucian Matis Broken Glass Dress

This is one dress you could accurately describe as cutting edge fashion.

Recently Bailey’s Canada recruited fashion designer Lucian Matis to create a one-of-a-kind dress inspired by the new taller and thinner bottle design. Matis decorated the gown with beads, flat glass, and shards of broken glass from the old Baileys bottles.

The dress took a team of three skilled workers 125 hours to complete, and was revealed on the runway at Toronto Fashion Week preceding the debut of Matis’ “Monochromatic Fantasy” 2013 fall/winter collection.

Diesel+EDUN Promote Denim Collection with Pantsula vs. Puppet Dance-off

Diesel+Edun - Pantsula vs Puppets

After travelling to Africa in 2012 to explore each other’s programs in Uganda and Mail, Diesel founder Renzo Rosso and EDUN founders Ali Hewson and Bono joined forces to promote the apparel trade in Africa under the name Diesel+EDUN. Out of this collaboration comes a denim collection manufactured in Africa from cotton sourced through EDUN’s Conservation Cotton Initiative (CCI).

Beyond simply fashion, the campaign showcases young African artists in film, music, photography and literature, whose work is featured at StudioAfrica.Tumblr.com.

To promote the collection, Vice, UK brought in South African director Sean Metelerkamp to create a high energy short film featuring the talents of Real Action, a Johannesberg pantsula dance crew.

The clip “Pantsula vs Puppets” shot in Soweto (embedded below), shows the dancers competing head-to-head against a group of hot-stepping marionettes set to The Very Best & Moroka‘s track ‘Ndekha‘.

American Eagle Outfitters Offers Spray-On Skinny Jeans in Early April Fool’s Joke

American Eagle Outfitters - Skinny Skinny Jeans

With more than a week to go until April Fool’s Day, it looks like American Eagle Outfitters is out ahead of the pack by releasing a cheeky ad for a product called AEO Skinny Skinny Jeans.

But enough with the wisecracks. It may take some folks a few seconds to realize that the skintight jeans in the ads aren’t pants at all, but body paint made to look like denim. The video reminds me of Air New Zealand’s ‘Bare Essentials of Safety‘ clip, featuring employees of the airline wearing nothing but body paint and a smile.

The AEO Skinny Skinny Jeans, which unfortunately are currently sold out cost $49,95, and are available in spray cans of Indigo and Bright Light.

‘You’ll Never Wear that Again’ App Searches Your Old Facebook Pics for Clothes to Donate

Stockholm Stadmission

To help encourage people to donate second-hand clothing to Stockholm’s Stadmission (City Mission), DDB Stockholm created “You’ll never wear that again“, a Facebook app that searches for older photos in your Facebook albums for items that you probably don’t wear anymore.

Select 9 pictures that show you wearing something that you no longer use and save them to a gallery to share with your Facebook friends. The app then shows where you can go to drop off your extra clothing items, and give them a new life.

“Same Dress” Drama Erupts Into an Epic Laser Battle in Harvey Nichols Holiday Ad

Harvey Nichols - Same Dress

Harvey Nichols is not afraid of courting controversy in their advertising campaigns, as evidenced by last year’s Christmas ad ‘Walk of Shame‘.

While this year’s Christmas ad seems less controversial, it’s may still seem very familiar to any woman who’s spent considerable efforts searching for, and selecting, what she thought was that special, unique dress, only to come face-to-face with someone (assuming a woman) wearing the exact same thing.

While I don’t dare speak for all guys, if I spot another dude wearing the same or similar thing at a party, it simply validates that I may have made a good fashion decision.

But, Harvey Nichols’ Christmas ad shows that only way to truly resolve this awkward holiday party situation is to stage an epic laser battle. Even the chihuahua gets pulled into the laser-battle action.

The ad was created by the London offices of Adam & Eve/DDB.

Help the Guy in Stanfield’s Underwear Hitchhike His Way Across Canada

Stanfield's - The Gitchhiker

As any young man growing up in Nova Scotia, I grew up wearing my share of underwear made a dozen or so miles away at the Stanfield’s factory in Truro. However, I never attempted to hitchhike anywhere in my tighty whities, not even on a double-dog dare.

But, that’s exactly what testicular cancer survivor Mark McIntyre will be doing. Starting on November 14, he’ll be attempting to make his way from Vancouver to Truro in 21 days by hitching rides and completing challenges and dares. If he’s successful, Stanfield’s will give $20,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society for below-the-waist cancer research.

You can follow McIntyre’s adventure at Gitchhiker.com, and help him out by voting on gifts (so far, fans have voted to provide him with boots and a toque) and saved kilometers in the Gitchmobile.

‘The Glitchhiker’ was created by john st., who previously worked with McIntyre and Stanfield’s in 2010 on the ‘Guy at Home in His Underwear‘ campaign.

It’s Dance vs. Prance: Humans Battle Horse in OPI’s Nail Polish Dance-Off

OPI Instinct of Color

One of the last things I expected to see today was a moon walking horse. But, that’s just one move that this horse performs in ‘Instinct of Color’, a video from nail product company OPI.

The horse, dubbed Lady in Black, after the classic black nail lacquer is trained by equestrian trainer Mario Luraschi, and is up to the challenge of going step-for-step with four human dancers.

Not only can the horse match their steps, she can also match their style, going head-to-head wearing one of the four nail/hoof lacquer colors used by the dancers: Pink-ing of You, Red My Fortune Cookie, Need Sunglasses? and No Room for the Blues.

The video was created by ad agency DAN Paris.

The song used in the clip is ‘Down the Road’ by French DJs C2C.
