Australian Anti-Speeding Campaign Uses Pinterest for Funeral Planning Inspiration

The Transport Accident Commission (TAC)“Slowing down won’t kill you” is the main message behind a new road safety campaign by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) in the Australian province of Victoria.

With stats showing that the high-risk driving habits of young men (ages 21-26) puts them at 50 percent more likely to be involved in a car accident, the TAC along with agency Grey Melbourne decided to target their campaign to the mothers, sisters, wives and girlfriends of this age group. Since research had shown that women can act as a positive influence on men’s driving habits, they turned to Pinterest with it’s 80% female user base.

The Pinterest boards are titled ‘How to Plan a Funeral‘ and contain images of things to consider when planning a funeral, including catering, churches, flowers, what to wear, and eulogy inspiration. The final board contains the message ‘I’d Hate to Plan Your Funeral’ and videos featuring the stories of people who have lost their lives in car crashes caused by careless driving.

The Pinterest campaign will run in conjunction with these videos, as well a video featuring a remake of The Cure’sPictures of You‘ (embedded below) performed by Australian singer/songwriter Angie Hart (former vocalist of Frente!).

Queensland Police Use Pinterest Board to Share Bizarre Road Safety Fails

Queensland Police Services - What the? FridayWhile most people are creating Pinterest boards chock full of recipes or home decorating ideas, the Queensland Police Services are using one of their boards to pin pictures of the bizarre behaviour that they come across while patrolling the north-east province of Australia.

What the? Friday” was started on the Queensland Police Services Facebook page where it remains one of the most popular content features. Recent posts have included a DIY tow truck, a driver performing a puppet show for a backseat audience, and a trucker who tried to repair a busted muffler with a pair of cut-off jeans.

The Queensland Police Services have been a leader in adopting social media platforms to better communicate with the public, not only on Facebook, but also with very active Twitter, YouTube, and Soundcloud profiles.

Honda Offers Pinterest Users $500 to Take 24-Hour ‘Pintermission’

Honda Pintermission CampaignTo promote their new CR-V model, Honda has launched a new campaign on Pinterest, calling out 5 heavy users who have ‘pinned’ a combined total of over 20,000 images.

The campaign challenges the five (dare I say ‘Pintervention’?) to take a 24-hour ‘Pintermission’ from the site in exchange for $500 (no questions asked). Honda suggests that they get out and visit the places, try the products or do the things that they are collecting images of. So far, they have responded with pins suggesting trips to Hawaii, San Francisco and London.

A few other car companies are setting up Pinterest pages, but none have been as creative as Peugeot Panama, who created both puzzles and a narrative across their pinboards.

The Pintermission campaign was created by Santa Monica agency RPA.

Peugeot Panama Pushes the Possibilities of Pinterest (Repeat 5 Times)

Peugeot Panama Pushes the Possibilities of Pinterest

While most companies are trying to figure out exactly what Pinterest is, others are jumping in to the wildly popular social network with wildly creative ideas. Peugeot Panama has used the boards view of their Pinterest account to not only display mosaics of their cars and trucks, but to present a story that promotes the features of each vehicle.

The story is told through the names given to each of the pin boards. For example the Peugeot Boxer is presented as Board 1: “With that much cargo space”, Board 2: “the biggest things you can imagine”, Board 3: “fit in a Peugeot Boxer”. The first and third boards are made up of 9 photos that create a mosaic of the back and front of the van, while the middle board features images of the ‘biggest things you can imagine‘, including such crazy items as the world’s largest carrot, giant catfish and the world’s biggest pair of underwear.

To top things off, Peugeot Panama have created 4 boards that act as puzzles with 8 missing pieces. The idea is that you create a board of your own, then find the missing pieces on the Peugeot Panama web site and Facebook page, and pin them to your board in order to solve the puzzle. I took a look around the sites and can’t find where those images are located, so if you find any of them please give me a hint.
