Purina Gives New Yorkers Free Cab Rides In Exchange for Cat Stories

Purina cat Chow #catcab
The The Humane Society of the United States estimates that there 86.4 million owned cats in the US (4.5 million in Canada), with fifty-two percent of owners own more than one cat. And with every cat comes a story, and probably pictures and video too.

Purina Cat Chow has created yourcatstory.com to collect those stories from cat owners. Just create a story about your cat in 600 characters or less, (attach a photo or short video if you’d like), and select. Ten finalists will be selected for consumer voting with five Grand Prize winners being awarded $5,000 and a year’s supply of Purina Cat Chow.

Purina launched the campaign in Manhattan, and for a week offered New York cat lovers a free cab in the #catcab in exchange for their cat stories.

Kodak Launches LIVEprint Product with Kitten Printing Service

Kodak - Print Your Own Live KittensWill live kitten printing be the innovation that returns the KODAK back to it’s glory days? It’s just the first of many products to come from Kodak’s LIVEprint technology developed in their Rochester, NY labs (Hi guys! Waving from the other side of the Lake).

Starting this morning, at selected retail location, Kodak Picture Kiosks can now print live kittens. Customers can choose from 12 popular breeds, including Siamese, Burmese, Himalayan and American Shorthair.

More specials are coming; for Easter they’ll be a ‘Buy 2 Bunnies, get 10 Free Deal’ and a nationwide launch of ‘Bring a Puppy Home for the Holidays!’ is set for November.

Cute April Fool’s prank Kodak, but Monday I’d get back to saving your company from obsolescence, k?

If you are looking for a ‘real’ dog or kitten (or even bunny, maybe) check out the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies or Petfinder.com. Thanks Jennifer Johnston for the links.

Agency Thinks Outside of the Litter Box and Sees a PURRfect Future in Catvertising

John St Turns to CatvertisingEarlier this year, Toronto ad agency john st created some buzz with ‘Pink Ponies’, a case study spoof detailing gow the agency created an effective promotional campaign about an 8 year old girl’s birthday party.

Now John St is back with a new tongue-in-cheek video (embedded above) that reveals a surprising new direction, as they launch the world’s first Catvertising agency.

In the clip Creative Director, Stephen Jurisic explains, “We’re seeing a shift in consumer habits. Everything is moving toward cat videos, and the agencies that don’t realize that, get left behind.”

The video is both funny and well produced, but the whole concept veers dangerously close to the Kittywood Studios mockumentary clip with over 500,000 views that was posted on YouTube in August by Pixels per Second.

Maybe both these videos are simply playing off of the IKEA Herding Cats ad from 2010. In that project Mother London released 100 cats inside the Wembley IKEA store at night and filmed the results for a wonderfully effective TV ad.

What do you think? Simple coincidence, or are these two kitty-inspired concepts a little too close for comfort?

iPawed? Friskies Launches Three iPad Games for Your Cat

Friskies' iPad games for catsIf you’re a cat owner you may have noticed your cat eyeballing you once or twice as you tried to three-star that last level of Angry Birds on your iPad. Cats are a very important element of the interwebs, after all, if it wasn’t for cat videos YouTube would lose half of it’s traffic.

Now thanks to Purina and Friskies your cat doesn’t have to miss out on all the interactive fun. They’ve developed three games designed specifically for your feline friends: Cat Fishing, Party Treasures Hunt and Party Mix-Up. You can watch them out in the video below or go toGamesForCats.com and try them out for yourself.

The three games were built using HTML5 and CSS3 and can also work on other tablet platforms like Android. Friskies does point out that your iPad glass surface should stand up to your cat’s claws without any problem, however if you have any kind of plastic covering it could get damaged.

So wake up Fluffy, Blackie and Lady MeowMeow and let’s catch a few fish.
