Budweiser UK Launches Knitbot, a Twitter-Powered Sweater Knitting Machine

Budweiser Knitbot

It looks like this year big brands have discovered the lowly holiday sweater, and have made it a part of their marketing campaigns leading up to Christmas. First out was Coke Zero’s Sweater Generator contest, where fans could create a mockup of a holiday sweater using the online tool. The 100 sweaters with the most votes will be produced and awarded to their creators just in time for the holidays.

Budweiser UK has launched a seasonal sweater-themed promotion in support of designated drivers. The brand is using Knitbot, a Twitter-powered knitting machine that responds to tweets that include the hashtag #jumpers4des.

The Knitbot will work around-the-clock for 10 days (November 26 to December 10) creating the red sweaters that include images of the Budweiser’s iconic Clydesdale horses. On December 11, designated drivers in the UK can apply on the Budweiser UK Facebook page for a chance to win one of the creations.

Budweiser Seeks Name for Clydesdale Foal Featured in 2013 Super Bowl Ad

Budweiser Super Bowl Ad - Brotherhood

UPDATE FEB 4: AFter getting more than 6o,ooo suggestions, Budweiser revealed the foal would be named ‘Hope’.

The star of Budweiser’s tear-inducing 2013 Super Bowl ad titled ‘Brotherhood’ was still only 7 days old when the opening scene was filmed. Budweiser is asking their Twitter and Facebook followers to help name the latest addition to their iconic Clydesdale team, with the name revealed on the Sunday’s Super Bowl broadcast.

Some of the names include Brew, Comet, Skywalker, Cheers, Suds, Clydus and Sprunky Brewster. As of this morning over 11,000 people had contributed names on the Facebook post.

The connection between Budweiser and the Clydedales began on April 7, 1933, when six-horse hitches of champion Clydesdales were given a gift from August A. Busch, Jr. and Adolphus Busch to their father to celebrate the repeal of prohibition. Since then, the horses have been featured in over 125 Budweiser TV commercials, including 22 in the Super Bowl alone. Brotherhood will be the 23rd appearance of the team.

Budweiser Surprises Toronto Rec-League Teams in Super Bowl Ad

Budweiser Canada Flash Fans AdWhen the guys from Les Amigos and the Toronto Generals showed up for their recreational league game at the Port Credit arena (capacity 700) back in December they had little idea what was in store for them. The two teams had been told that a documentary production crew was at the rink was there to shoot footage about rec league hockey.

During the second period, 500 fans in team colours, costumes and bodypaint rushed into the tiny arena to the surprise of the players. As Budweiser banners around the rink were unfurled the fans were followed by costumed team mascots and a play-by-play crew and soon gave the quiet rec-league game an NHL atmosphere, including kerfluffles.

Tied at the end of regulation time, the Generals came out on top 4-3 after an overtime goal. I suspect both teams had ample opportunity to celebrate with a few Buds after the game.

It’s a thrill to see the local Port Credit hockey arena featured in a national ad. The 52 year-old arena had only recently re-opened after over a year of extensive renovations.

The ad will be seen this Sunday during CTV’s Super Bowl broadcast.

The Warmer the Day, the Less You’ll Pay for Budweiser in Ireland

I unfortunately missed this campaign from Budweiser in Ireland when it was first launched in late April.

The first you may be asking yourself is, “If I am in Ireland – a land of awesome beers like Guinness, Harp, Murphy’s and Beamish – is a Budweiser Ice Cold draught going to be my beer of choice?” Maybe, if you can save a few Euros or if it’s free you will.

Budweiser Ice Cold IndexThis summer Budweiser has launched the Ice Cold Index app offering beer drinkers throughout Ireland special deals based on the temperature. The campaign developed by DDB UK will award drinkers a free pint when the temperature in their area reaches 20°C. If the temperature reaches 18°C or 19°C outdoors the app will offer €2 off the user’s next pint, with €1 off if the temperature reaches 16°C or 17°C.

How it Works

A user checks the app to see what the daily offer is in their region. Temperatures for the current day are taken at noon in four different locations Ulster, Connacht, Leinster and Munster.

Once the offer is active, the user can use the Pub Finder to locate one of the 2,500 participating venues across Ireland.

In the pub the user requests the unique pub code from the staff. After the code has been entered the mobile voucher is active for 2 minutes before it expires. It must then be shown to one of the barstaff to claim your savings

Beer drinkers are eligible to use the app for one beer purchase per day. But, in a valiant effort to save drinkers from themselves they can access a voucher 4 out of any 7 day period.

The app is available for iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Nokia. For instructions on other mobile phones, users can text the word ‘INDEX’ to 5040.
