World Alzheimer’s Day App Erases Your Facebook Timeline For a Day

World Alzheimer's Day

On September 21, Facebook users will have the chance to raise awareness and support of World Alzheimer’s Day by having their Facebook timeline’s temporarily erased. All that will remain is the message, “Imagine your life without memories. For 36 million people living with Alzheimer’s disease, this is reality.”

The experience hopes to demonstrate to Facebook users how it feels to have their memories taken away. But, unlike the estimated 36 people who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia worldwide, Facebook user’s timeline of memories will reappear unaffected at the end of the day.

No Cash, No Credit Cards. Man Must Barter His Bacon on Cross Country Drive

Oscar Mayer Bacon Barter

Bacon as a viable currency presents a few problems right of-the-bat. First and foremost, I’d eat through my cash pretty quickly – but really what else would I need to buy if I had bacon. Second, we’d have to re-invent the wallet to better keep our cash fresh. Third, pigs would be even less thrilled with their lot in life.

Despite those issues, Oscar Mayer kicked off The Great American Bacon Barter in New York with comic actor Josh Sankey bartering 10 packs of bacon for a psychic reading. Josh did a little better later by scoring a six pack, a bag of ice and tickets to the Jets game.

You see Josh’s mission is to travel from NY to LA, with no cash or credit cards, just a trailer full of 3,000 pounds of bacon. He must barter the bacon in exchange for food, accommodations and whatever else comes up along the way.

Each day Josh will be tweeting out what he needs at @BaconBarter with the hashtag #needit. People who can help out can contact him through Twitter, the Oscar Mayer Facebook page or email.

Star with Topher Grace in New Toshiba/Intel Social Film ‘The Beauty Inside’

Toshiba/Intel The Beauty Inside - Social FIlm Experience

Last July Intel and Toshiba teamed up to sponsor ‘The Inside Experience‘ an interactive social film directed by D.J. Caruso (Disturbia) and starring Emmy Rossum (of HBO’s Shameless). Rossum played Christina, a young woman who wakes up in a strange sealed-off room, where she discovers an Intel-powered Toshiba laptop with a dicey connection to an untraceable web connection. Christina uses social media to ask for help to escape and discover the identity of her captors by posting content to her Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts. The audience could determine certain aspects within the story, influence its direction, as well as audition to star in the series themselves.

This summer the two tech firms are back to sponsor a new social film entitled ‘The Beauty Inside’, the story of Alex, a 20 something man living in Los Angeles who has woken up every day in his life with a new physical appearance (you may be seeing where this is going already). Fans can audition for the role of Alex on the ‘The Beauty Inside’ Facebook page. Since Alex’s appearance changes everyday, multiple people (both male and female) will be chosen to play the role.

The film is being directed by Sundance-Award winning director Drake Doremus and will star Topher Grace (That 70s Show), and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs the World). Episode 1 on Thursday August 16 at 3:00pm PST on Facebook.

The project was developed by LA agency Pereira & O’Dell and and production company B-Reel.
